Dr. Stephan P. Krotz is dedicated to helping patients achieve their dream of a family and providing his patients with the knowledgeable and compassionate care they deserve. His passion for reproduction and genetics motivated him to pursue a career in infertility, where he could combine medicine and cutting-edge technology to provide patients with the greatest gift possible…their own baby. His patient and caring approach to infertility care has earned him the admiration of colleagues and patients alike. Dr. Krotz has achieved much early on in his career as a result of his experience in a high volume Ivy-League program and innovative approach to medical practice. He has served as Faculty and a Clinical Instructor at Baylor College of Medicine, Brown University and the University of Houston Health Clinic in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Obstetrics and Gynecology. He currently provides services for in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), fertility preservation, hysteroscopy & laparoscopy, management of fibroids, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and postmenopausal hormone replacement.

Dr. Krotz first became interested in Reproduction during his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis, where he studied Genetics. He attended medical school at Northwestern University where he further developed his passion for Women’ Health Issues and developed an expertise in gene therapy for breast cancer, medical management of multiple pregnancies, ovarian cancer and pelvic surgery. He was selected for a Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine where he won awards for academic and research achievement, and served in leadership positions. He began his fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine and was invited to continue training under the same internationally-renowned directors at Brown University as a result of his excellent performance. At Brown University, he was instrumental in developing the fellowship program to train future infertility specialists. Additionally, he served as a minimally-invasive surgery course instructor and initiated the Robotic Surgery Program to treat infertility patients. He developed the Gynecologic Endocrinology & Infertility Clinic at the Women’s Primary Care Center to increase access to high-quality reproductive endocrine care.

Dr. Krotz is an expert in helping women diagnosed with cancer preserve their fertility as a result of his extensive clinical and research experience. At Baylor College of Medicine, he developed an expertise in Premature Ovarian Failure (early menopause) which occurs in women who receive chemotherapy or radiation treatments for cancer. His research in Premature Ovarian Failure led to the naming and describing of the gene Gtsf1 and set the stage for his groundbreaking work at Brown University. Using novel 3-dimensional cell culture technology developed at Brown University, he pioneered the development of the first Artificial Human Ovary in the world for the in vitro maturation of oocytes and study of environmental effects on reproduction. The Rhode Island Science & Technology Advisory Council funded the Artificial Human Ovary project to promote collaboration between industry and academia. For his innovative research, the New England Fertility Society awarded him the 2009 Research Prize.

Dr. Krotz has published over 30 scientific articles, book chapters and abstracts, and is a reviewer for prestigious medical journals. Additionally, he has completed numerous research fellowships at prestigious institutions including the Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Harvard Medical School and the University of California, San Francisco. He has given multiple presentations at national and international meetings about his research and enjoys providing excellent patient care as a result of his research findings. His work is often cited in the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology Compendium which sets the guidelines for medical care among Obstetricians & Gynecologists nationwide.
