Assisted Hatching is a procedure in which an opening is made in the zona pellucida (outer membrane of the egg).
Indications for assisted hatching are still a subject to controversy. Some studies suggest that it may be helpful in cases in which the zona pellucida is thicker than normal, in patients that have experienced previous IVF failures and patients of advanced reproductive age.
Assisted hatching is mandatory in cases when embryo biopsy is performed for preimplantation genetics diagnosis (PGD).
Here at AFCT we are using zilos-TK laser to perform the assisted hatching.
